Language, anthropomorphism & AI
Linguistic determinants of anthropomorphic inference, animacy perception, and responsibility attribution in human–AI interaction.
Linguistic framing and agency
This work examines how grammatical agency and linguistic framing affect representations of artificial agents. We distinguish online measures of semantic integration and animacy perception from explicit judgments of agency and moral responsibility.
Behavioral and sentence-processing studies investigate how agentive framing affects responsibility assignments toward AI systems and their creators. Related research examines the contribution of linguistic style to evaluations of large language models.

We investigate the attribution of humanlike properties to artificial agents, including the distinct contributions of belief and goal attributions. This research relates anthropomorphic judgments to the linguistic cues and conceptual representations available during comprehension.
Current manuscripts address belief and goal attribution and grammatical agency in online perceptions of AI animacy; both are revisions under review. Work in preparation develops a taxonomy of anthropomorphism.
